The Weekly Wave (1/13)

"This one step - choosing a goal and staying to it - changes everything."
- Scott Reed

We have had the first couple of meets of the New Year and they have been great signs of what is coming this year. Like I stated in the previous e-mail we are in the championship phase of the season and you must be present at practice to win. What you accomplish is all based on the choices that you make today. There are no “have to’s” or “should’s”, there are always choices. For example, you don’t “have to” go to school but you choose to because you want to be successful later on in life. When the phrases “I have to” or “I should” pop up next time turn it around and say “I choose to”.

The first meet of the New Year was the annual January Distance meet where the swimmers competed in either the 1000 or the 1650 freestyles. We had a small squad of swimmers in attendance at the meet. I think I will let your teammate Chloe Meister sum up the meet with a wonderful poem she was inspired to write:

The 1000 Freestyle
by Chloe Meister

Recently, I swam the 1000 freestyle.
It wasn’t too bad, but it sure took a while…
At the beep, we all dove into the pool.
People were cheering, and the water was cool.
At the end of the lane,
My counter didn’t complain,
As I swam back and forth
Again and again.
Around lap thirty, I got pretty tired.
But when I thought of it this way, I was pretty inspired:
Only ten laps to go,
Which isn’t too far.
So if I stopped going slow,
I’d be quite the star!
Then I picked up the pace,
And finished the race.
After all forty laps,
I thought I’d collapse.
But I finished the event,
And that was my intent.
So when I was done,
I still felt like I won,
And it actually turned out
To be sort of fun!

There were 14 swimmers in attendance where some of them were swimming either the 1000 or 1650 for the first time and some that have done it before. As Chloe stated in her poem, it was “sort of fun”. Challenging yourself to try new things and to do the thing that you think you cannot do. Everyone did a great job…

We broke 1 team record at the distance meet:

  • Tori Webb broke the team’s record in the girls 11-12 1000 free with a time of 13:14.56.

Now speaking of trying new things and challenging yourself, we have had some new members join CLUB TSUNAMI. They have achieved this honor by first challenging themselves in practice working on each stroke and then taking on the challenge of competing in those strokes at the meets. The score is based off of USA Swimming’s IMX Challenge scores. For more information please click here (I think you need Firefox to view this page for some reason).
  • Amber Kerico became the first member of GOLD Level by earning over 3000 points!
  • Eric Yang, Madison Gupton, and Javi Mery have earned BRONZE Level by achieving 1000+ points!
Each swimmer gets an AWESOME CLUB TSUNAMI shirt stating their level and is added to the members section of the website which can be found here or under the CLUB TSUNAMI link. Great job to our new members…
Many of you are very close to becoming a part of CLUB TSUNAMI so keep up the hard work!

GO BLUE WAVE

I have left the links and other information off of the Weekly Waves as I am trying a new distribution method because I don’t want that information to get buried. I will be sending out a separate e-mail titled “The SPLASH” which will contain ONTO THE NEWS, PARENT’S CORNER, COACHE’S CORNER, UPCOMING MEETS, & UPCOMING EVENTS. The various parts of the website are always being updated with new items and it helps us communicate and educate everyone. Please take the time to look through the previous postings if you have not had the time to read them before. Here is a short description of what each section will contain.
  • ONTO THE NEWS usually contains links to the previous news stories that have been posted on the website, the easiest to see if you visit daily.
  • PARENT’S CORNER contains all the articles and information that we find relevant to helping educate you, the parents, on this great sport in many different areas.

  • NUTRITION CORNER contains relevant nutrition information that we think will help you fuel your swimmers.
  • COACHES CORNER is meant for both the swimmers and the parents as it contains many great articles and information.
  • UPCOMING MEETS contains information that is posted under the same heading on the website.

  • UPCOMING EVENTS will contain team events that will be going one etc…this can also be found on the front page of the webpage.
You can subscribe to the RSS feed for the Parent’s Corner, Nutrition Corner, and Coach’s Corner if you would like to know when new things are put up a bit earlier. Those are written through Google’s blogger.com

The first SPLASH will be sent out soon…
