Squad Descriptions
The TIDAL Wave program is considered the most
diverse squad. TIDAL Waves are made up of swimmers moving up from
BLUE Crests or Breakers, High School student-athletes aged 14-18
who are new to Blue Wave, or current swimmers aged 13-18 who choose
this level of commitment. Swimmers may wish to progress through the
remaining two squads within the Blue Wave program or choose to
remain in the TIDAL Wave squad for the remainder of their
involvement with Blue Wave. High School age swimmers new to Blue
Wave will most often begin in TIDAL Wave to attain knowledge about
the program and to develop the training background and other skills
necessary to progress within the Blue Wave Program.
The main emphasis for TIDAL Wave athletes is
focused on taking athletes and making them into swimmers. TIDAL
Wave will meet the needs of athletes coming from other sports, high
school swimmers or swimmers currently in the Blue Wave program who
are still working on translating dryland power into aquatic
speed.
Technique is the primary focus with speed,
power and explosiveness playing large roles.
This group is preparation for eventual movement to the next level
of the program. A second priority is to offer those swimmers
wishing to remain at this level the very best training and teaching
environment for success at High School District, Regional, and
State championships, as well as USA Swimming District and Region
championships. Goal meetings are utilized to assess each
athlete’s goals and aspirations. Based on these meetings,
training will be geared towards each swimmer’s goals.
Additional dry land and flexibility training
are offered on a regular basis. TIDAL Waves provides the busy
student athlete the opportunity to train at a high level without
conflicting with other after school activities. A good portion of
the TIDAL Wave group participates in other athletics or outside
activities. Five practices offered per week with no minimum
practice requirement.
Swimmers are strongly encouraged to attend
all practices as skills and progressions build from one practice
session to another.
