Level 1
This is the first level of Blue Wave’s competitive program, designed for our youngest swimmers (6-8 year olds). Children practice two times weekly for one hour and twenty minutes (1 hour is devoted to in water and 20 minutes is devoted to dry-land activities). In-water instruction is utilized. Swimmers are taught balance and awareness with much attention on proper air exchange, body alignment, and long easy strokes. Freestyle and backstroke are mastered while fundamentals of breaststroke and butterfly are introduced as well as starts. Focus is on quality of skills. Instruction involves simple skill explanation, visual demonstration, and in-water spotting of skills. Two practices offered per week. Swim meets are offered to those that are skill ready (legal in at least three strokes and can dive) with a relaxed and fun approach (times are not emphasized at this age). Dryland training is introduced.
