Squad Descriptions
For the experienced swimmer, training
intensifies and evolves throughout the competitive swim season.
Equal emphasis is given to training in all four strokes. Technique
continues to be the primary emphasis, with stroke and skill mastery
as the consistent focus. The amount and intensity of the training
increases throughout the competition season with consistency and
effort as fundamental objectives to success. Goal setting, personal
responsibility, leadership, and teamwork skills are taught.
Swimmers can expect to race all events; the primary focus will be
IM training. A scheduled, weekly dryland routine complements
training. Swimmers are encouraged to attend all practices offered,
4 times per week.
Athletes move into this squad
from the GREEN Crest Squad. Swimmers entering this level are
usually at least 10 years old and must have completed the
’Goals of the GREEN Crest Squad(or equivalent), plus three of
the following five:
- 10x50@ 1:00
- 8x25 @ :40 IM order
- Swim under 1:30 in 100YD freestyle
- Swim under 1:50 in 100YD IM
- Kick 1x50 with fins under :50
Ultimately, the coach has final say in squad
appointments
Goals of BLUE
Crests:
- Swim 400IM legally
- Race in every distance, every stroke
available over duration of season
- Achieve 11-12 year old PVS JO time
standards
- Improve fluidity in turns and push-offs
- Improve dive and backstroke entry into
water
- Begin learning how to manage effort and
intensity through practice
- Learn and improve goal setting skills
- Improve on controlling attitude and focus
within workout and understand that they affect teammates
- Create a core group of ’training
friends’
- Sit with friends and teammates at swim
meets
- Listen to coaches!
Competing at swim meets is
highly encouraged at a rate of about once per month.
Equipment Needed:
- Cap (needed if you have long hair)
- 2 pairs of goggles
- Water Bottle
- Catalyst Hand Paddles (ask coach for help in
sizing)
- T2 Swim Fins / Crossblade fin (depends on
foot size)
- Hydro Techboard 3-in-1 (if you don’t
have a pull-buoy)
